21	21	WHEREAS, The Council of State Governments Southern Office (CSG South) 18
22	22	is a nonpartisan, nonprofit member organization that serves the southern 19
23	23	legislatures of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, 20
24	24	Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, 21
25	25	Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia; and 22

27	27	WHEREAS, with regionally based leadership and perspective, and 24
28	28	national-level resources, CSG South provides southern legislators and 25
29	29	government staff with a wide variety of prog rams and services that facilitate 26
30	30	regional cooperation and encourage the exchange of information; and 27

32	32	WHEREAS, CSG South is governed by an Executive Committee made up of 29
33	33	legislative leadership, and policy topics are overseen by six Standing Policy 30
34	34	Committees which consist of legislators and government staff from the member 31

37	37	WHEREAS, the mission of the organization is to serve as a community of 34
38	38	the states, committed to connecting, informing, inspiring, and empowering 35

46	46	WHEREAS, in pursuit of this mission, CSG South has convened the 3
47	47	Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) for the past seventy -six (76) years, 4
48	48	beginning with its inception in Hot Springs, Arkansas and moving into decades 5
49	49	of fellowship and cooperation between the fifteen (15) southern states; and 6

51	51	WHEREAS, the seventy-seventh Southern Legislative Conference will 8
52	52	convene in Charleston, South Carolina, from July 8 to 12, 2023 ; and 9

54	54	WHEREAS, more than one thousand five hundred (1,500) southern 11
55	55	legislators, government staff, and their families will gather to discuss 12
56	56	policy matters specifically affecting southern states to bridge commonalities 13
57	57	and discuss solutions for current p olicy trends, challenges, and 14
58	58	opportunities; and 15

60	60	WHEREAS, CSG South offers a welcome to all southern legislative, 17
61	61	executive, and judicial officials to attend, 18
