 BILL NUMBER: SB 223AMENDED BILL TEXT AMENDED IN ASSEMBLY JULY 15, 2009 AMENDED IN SENATE MAY 6, 2009 INTRODUCED BY Senator Wyland FEBRUARY 23, 2009 An act to add Section 33542 to the Education Code, relating to education. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 223, as amended, Wyland. Education: history-social science curriculum framework: financial literacy. Existing law provides that there is in the state government the Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials Commission to study problems of courses of study in the schools of the state and, upon request of the State Board of Education, to recommend the adoption of minimum standards for courses of study in preschool, kindergarten, elementary, and secondary schools. Existing law also requires the commission to recommend curriculum frameworks to the state board. This bill would require the commission to consider and vote on whether to include a unit on financial literacy in the proposed changes to the  2014   2015  history-social science curriculum framework as part of its regular process of developing and revising curriculum frameworks as requested by the state board. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 33542 is added to the Education Code, to read: 33542. As part of its regular process of developing and revising curriculum frameworks as requested by the state board, the commission shall consider and vote on whether to include  a unit on  financial literacy in the proposed changes to the  2014   2015  history-social science curriculum framework.
