LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 767, as introduced, Harman. Vehicles: radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. Existing law authorizes any local political subdivision of this state, including, but not limited to, a city, a county, a city and county, a district, or a special district, to participate in a local traffic safety program within its jurisdiction if the local program is approved by the Governor. This bill would authorize a local political subdivision of this state, including, but not limited to, a city, a county, a city and county, a district, or a special district, to participate in a local traffic safety program that uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in order to aid law enforcement efforts, promote environmental initiatives, including congestion mitigation, and enhance revenue collections of unpaid fines and penalties. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 2909.5 is added to the Vehicle Code, to read: 2909.5. A local political subdivision of this state, including, but not limited to, a city, a county, a city and county, a district, or a special district, is authorized to participate in a local traffic safety program that uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in order to aid law enforcement efforts, promote environmental initiatives, including congestion mitigation, and enhance revenue collections of unpaid fines and penalties.
