The commission is also working to generate interest and participation in each of the states in supporting this effort. Although Californians already were serving in the various branches of the United States Armed Forces prior to the start of the war, August 5, 1917, is the date that draftees from California reported to camps for service. The 91st Division, which included two regiments of Californian draftees, was constituted on that day at Camp Lewis, Washington; now, therefore, be itResolved, by the Assembly of the State of California, the Senate thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby proclaims support for the mission of the California World War One Centennial Task Force, as authorized by the United States World War I Centennial Commission, by designating the time period between August 5, 2017, and November 11, 2018, inclusive, to be observed as the commemoration period of the 100th anniversary of the United States involvement in World War I, and be it furtherResolved, That the Legislature encourages all Californians to learn more about the United States involvement in World War I, especially the sacrifice of Californians in that war, and to educate people about the role California played in the war, and how it changed California; and be it further Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
