The California Manufacturers & Technology Association: 100th anniversary.This measure would urge all citizens to congratulate the California Manufacturers & Technology Association on 100 years of exemplary representation of manufacturing and technology companies throughout the state and to embrace Californias rich manufacturing history and future excellence.Digest Key Fiscal Committee: NO Bill TextWHEREAS, California Cotton Mills Company, Bethlehem Steel Corporation, and Del Monte Corporation were among the founding companies that incorporated the California Manufacturers Association and, following a little meeting at the Hotel Oakland in 1918, opened the associations doors in the County of Alameda in the same year; and WHEREAS, The fundamental premise in the associations preamble remains the same today as it was at its founding: It is the duty of every person engaged in the manufacturing industry to encourage his trade and protect it; and ... that the interests of every branch of business may be best promoted by a united effort on the part of those engaged in it ...; andWHEREAS, A Journal of Electricity and Western Industry article stated in 1921, The organization stands for all that is best in cooperative effort and comprising, as it does, the major industrial plants of the state, is a powerful factor in furthering western development.; and WHEREAS, In 1940, the association moved from Oakland to Sacramento, Californias capital, to further the goal of the association that has remained the same for 100 years  years, which is to help manufacturing thrive in California; and WHEREAS, Recognizing that California manufacturers employ cutting-edge technologies that make them the most innovative, efficient, and technologically skilled companies in the country, the association added Technology to its name in 2000, becoming known as the California Manufacturers & Technology Association; and WHEREAS, The importance of Californias manufacturing and technology sectors are evidenced by the employment of more than 1.3 million workers in high-wage, middle-class jobs that pay an average of $87,000 per year and annually generate more than $288 billion in direct economic activity with multiplier benefits in other sectors of the economy; and WHEREAS, The California Manufacturers & Technology Association remains committed to attracting new manufacturing investments to maintain existing and support new job creation that is vital for the long-term health of Californias economy; andWHEREAS, The California Manufacturers & Technology Association proudly looks back on its 100 year-long history that includes a broad spectrum of the nations top manufacturers; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the Legislature hereby urges all citizens to congratulate the California Manufacturers & Technology Association on 100 years of exemplary representation of manufacturing and technology companies throughout the state and to embrace Californias rich manufacturing history and future excellence; and be it furtherResolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
