The measure would also urge the government of the Peoples Republic of China to immediately end the persecution of, and forced organ harvesting from, Falun Gong practitioners, and urge the President of the United States to undertake an investigation into organ transplant practices in the Peoples Republic of China. urge the President and the Congress of the United States to condemn any government-sanctioned persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.Digest Key Fiscal Committee: NO Bill TextWHEREAS, Falun Gong, also called Falun Dafa, is a spiritual practice involving meditative qigong exercises and is centered on the values of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance; andWHEREAS, Falun Gong became immensely popular in China in the 1990s, and by early 1999, according to the New York Times, the Chinese government estimated that more than 70 million Chinese practiced Falun Gong; andWHEREAS, Falun Gong is now practiced around the world, including many practitioners in California, and practitioners have been steadfast in demanding the safeguarding of their human rights and dignity through nonviolent means; andWHEREAS, The United States House of Representatives passed House Resolution 343 in June 2016, expressing concern regarding reports of nonconsenting organ removal from prisoners of conscience; andWHEREAS, Between 3,000 and 4,000 practitioners of Falun Gong marched on Market Street in San Francisco on October 25, 2016, to raise awareness of the alleged mistreatment of Falun Gong practitioners imprisoned in China; now, therefore, be itResolved by the Senate and the Assembly of the State of California, jointly, That the Legislature expresses support for Falun Gong practitioners 18-year nonviolent resistance against persecution, which exemplifies uncompromising courage and human spirit; and be it furtherResolved, That the Legislature condemns any government-sanctioned persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the Peoples Republic of China or elsewhere; and be it furtherResolved, That the Legislature urges the President and the Congress of the United States to condemn any government-sanctioned persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the Peoples Republic of China or elsewhere; and be it furtherResolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
