11 CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE 20192020 REGULAR SESSION Assembly Bill No. 2156Introduced by Assembly Member Eduardo GarciaFebruary 10, 2020 An act to add Section 78010 to the Education Code, relating to community colleges. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGESTAB 2156, as introduced, Eduardo Garcia. Community colleges: concurrent award of associate degree and high school diploma.Existing law establishes the California Community Colleges, under the administration of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, as one of the segments of public postsecondary education in this state. Existing law establishes community college districts throughout the state, and authorizes them to provide instruction to students at the campuses they operate.Existing law authorizes community colleges to grant associate in arts and associate in science degrees. Existing law authorizes the governing boards of community college districts maintaining adult schools to prescribe requirements for the granting of adult school diplomas. Existing law also authorizes community college districts to provide adult education in conjunction with school districts as part of regional consortia.This bill would provide that, notwithstanding the provisions referenced above or any other law, a community college district may establish and offer to students a course of study leading to the concurrent award of an associate degree and a high school diploma.Digest Key Vote: MAJORITY Appropriation: NO Fiscal Committee: NO Local Program: NO Bill TextThe people of the State of California do enact as follows:SECTION 1.
