1414 WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Pueblo was originally launched as a1
1515 United States Army cargo ship in 1944 but was transferred to the United2
1616 States Navy and renamed the U.S.S. Pueblo in 1966; and3
1717 WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Pueblo was named for the city of Pueblo,4
1818 Colorado, and the county of Pueblo, Colorado, and was the third ship in5
1919 the naval fleet to bear the name Pueblo; and6
2020 WHEREAS, After leaving Japan in early January 1968 on an7
2121 intelligence mission, the U.S.S. Pueblo was attacked by the North Korean8
2222 military on January 23, 1968; and9

5448 United States Navy but continues to be held by the North Korean11
5549 government and is currently a museum in Pyongyang, North Korea; now,12

5751 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-third14
5852 General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:15
5953 (1) That we, the members of the General Assembly, recognize the16
6054 bravery and sacrifice of the crew of the U.S.S. Pueblo;17
6155 (2) That we take pride in the fact that the U.S.S. Pueblo bears the18
6256 name of a city and a county in Colorado, and, therefore, the citizens of19
6357 Colorado should be aware of the incident that occurred with the U.S.S.20
6458 Pueblo fifty-four years ago;21
6559 (3) That we continue the call for Kim Jong Un and the North22
6660 Korean government to return the U.S.S. Pueblo to the people of the23
6761 United States; and24
6862 (4) That we hereby designate January 23 of each year as "U.S.S.25
6963 Pueblo Day", a day to remember and honor the brave crew of the U.S.S.26
7064 Pueblo.27
7165 Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent28
7266 to President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.; Governor Jared Polis; President Pro29
7367 Tempore of the United States Senate Patrick Leahy; Speaker of the30
7468 United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi; and the members31
7569 of Colorado's Congressional delegation.32
