14	14		WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Pueblo was originally launched as a1
15	15		United States Army cargo ship in 1944 but was transferred to the United2
16	16		States Navy and renamed the U.S.S. Pueblo in 1966; and3
17	17		WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Pueblo was named for the city of Pueblo,4
18	18		Colorado, and the county of Pueblo, Colorado, and was the third ship in5
19	19		the naval fleet to bear the name Pueblo; and6
20	20		WHEREAS, After leaving Japan in early January 1968 on an7
21	21		intelligence mission, the U.S.S. Pueblo was attacked by the North Korean8
22	22		military on January 23, 1968; and9

45	39		crew of the U.S.S. Pueblo, the ship was in international waters at the time2
46	40		of the attack; and3
47	41		WHEREAS, One crew member of the U.S.S. Pueblo was killed4
48	42		during the attack, and eighty crew members and two civilian5
49	43		oceanographers were captured and held for eleven months by the North6
50	44		Korean government; and7
51	45		WHEREAS, This year marks the fifty-fourth anniversary of North8
52	46		Korea's attack on the U.S.S. Pueblo and her crew; and9
53	47		WHEREAS, The U.S.S. Pueblo is still in commission in the10
54	48		United States Navy but continues to be held by the North Korean11
55	49		government and is currently a museum in Pyongyang, North Korea; now,12
56	50		therefore,13
57	51		Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-third14
58	52		General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:15
59	53		(1) That we, the members of the General Assembly, recognize the16
60	54		bravery and sacrifice of the crew of the U.S.S. Pueblo;17
61	55		(2) That we take pride in the fact that the U.S.S. Pueblo bears the18
62	56		name of a city and a county in Colorado, and, therefore, the citizens of19
63	57		Colorado should be aware of the incident that occurred with the U.S.S.20
64	58		Pueblo fifty-four years ago;21
65	59		(3) That we continue the call for Kim Jong Un and the North22
66	60		Korean government to return the U.S.S. Pueblo to the people of the23
67	61		United States; and24
68	62		(4) That we hereby designate January 23 of each year as "U.S.S.25
69	63		Pueblo Day", a day to remember and honor the brave crew of the U.S.S.26
70	64		Pueblo.27
71	65		Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent28
72	66		to President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.; Governor Jared Polis; President Pro29
73	67		Tempore of the United States Senate Patrick Leahy; Speaker of the30
74	68		United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi; and the members31
75	69		of Colorado's Congressional delegation.32
