1414 WHEREAS, United States military involvement in the Vietnam1
1515 War began in South Vietnam in 1964 and continued throughout the2
1616 region until 1975, involving North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong3
1717 guerrilla forces in armed conflict with United States Armed Forces and4
1818 the Army of the Republic of Vietnam; and5
1919 WHEREAS, During this period, more than 2.7 million American6
2020 soldiers, both volunteers and draftees, served tours of duty in Vietnam,7
2121 with a total of more than 9 million active duty military personnel, in what8
2222 was an extremely long, difficult, and complex war; and9
2323 WHEREAS, More than 58,220 members of the United States10

5650 WHEREAS, Formal acknowledgment of Vietnam War veterans12
5751 is as important now as ever, not only for those veterans who served but13
5852 for all citizens; bipartisan legislation signed in 2017 permanently14
5953 enshrines March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day; and15
6054 WHEREAS, April 30, 2023, marks the 48th anniversary of the end16
6155 of the Vietnam War; now, therefore,17
6256 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the18
6357 Seventy-fourth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate19
6458 concurring herein:20
6559 That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly, hereby:21
6660 (1) Honor the service and sacrifices of Colorado military veterans22
6761 who served in the Vietnam War alongside South Vietnamese soldiers;23
6862 (2) Recognize the challenges faced by many of these veterans,24
6963 both while serving in the Vietnam War and upon returning home;25
7064 (3) Express our appreciation for the fortitude of Colorado26
7165 veterans; their activism on behalf of fellow veterans; their patriotism;27
7266 their accomplishments and contributions; and the leadership they have28
7367 shown their families, community organizations, and the state; and29
7468 (4) Encourage all Coloradans to remember the sacrifices made by30
7569 Vietnam War veterans.31
