Armed Forces, including 623 Coloradans, lost their lives in the Vietnam1 War, and more than 300,000 members of the United States Armed Forces2 were wounded; and3 WHEREAS, In addition, more than 1,500 members of the United4 States Armed Forces listed as prisoners of war (POWs) or missing in5 action in the Vietnam War remain unaccounted for, including 246 Coloradans; and7 WHEREAS, According to the U.S. Department of Veterans8 Affairs, more than 6 million veterans of the United States Armed Forces9 who served during the Vietnam era are still alive today, including, as of10 2020, more than 117,000 Coloradans; and11 WHEREAS, Formal acknowledgment of Vietnam War veterans12 is as important now as ever, not only for those veterans who served but13 for all citizens; bipartisan legislation signed in 2017 permanently14 enshrines March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day; and15 WHEREAS, April 30, 2023, marks the 48th anniversary of the end16 of the Vietnam War; now, therefore,17 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the18 Seventy-fourth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate19 concurring herein:20 That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly, hereby:21 (1) Honor the service and sacrifices of Colorado military veterans22 who served in the Vietnam War alongside South Vietnamese soldiers;23 (2) Recognize the challenges faced by many of these veterans,24 both while serving in the Vietnam War and upon returning home;25 (3) Express our appreciation for the fortitude of Colorado26 veterans; their activism on behalf of fellow veterans; their patriotism;27 their accomplishments and contributions; and the leadership they have28 shown their families, community organizations, and the state; and29 (4) Encourage all Coloradans to remember the sacrifices made by30 Vietnam War veterans.31 1013 -2- Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent1 to the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; the United2 Veterans Coalition of Colorado; Project Sanctuary; the President of the3 United States Joseph R.
