The bill requires school districts and institutions of higher education to allow graduates to wear traditional Native American dress at a graduation ceremony. The bill is assessed as having no fiscal impact. Appropriation Summary: No appropriation is required. Fiscal Note Status: The fiscal note reflects the enacted bill. Summary of Legislation The bill requires schools and public institutions of higher education to allow qualifying students to wear traditional Native American dress at graduation ceremonies. Qualifying students are members of a tribe or are of Native American descent. Immediate family members may also wear traditional Native American dress during the student’s graduation ceremony. Assessment of No Fiscal Impact It is assumed that school districts will comply with the bill and allow eligible students to wear traditional Native American dress at graduation ceremonies. Thus, the bill will have no impact on the revenue, expenditures, or workload of school districts or public institutions of higher education and is assessed as having no fiscal impact. Effective Date The bill was signed into law by the Governor and took effect on May 4, 2023.
