The bill increases state workload starting in FY 2024-25. Appropriation Summary: No appropriation is required. Fiscal Note Status: This revised fiscal note reflects the reengrossed bill. Summary of Legislation The bill requires the Attorney General to prevent and combat the sharing and spreading of misinformation through: establishing an initiative to encourage respectful discourse; development of a curriculum for public use to produce conversations to help people find common ground; and collaboration with state organizations to update and share curriculum materials. State Expenditures Starting in FY 2024-25, the bill will increase workload in the Department of Law (DOL) to develop and maintain a curriculum and establish an initiative to encourage respectful discourse. The DOL reports they have the expertise to develop and maintain the initiative and curriculum, therefore, no appropriation is required. Effective Date The bill takes effect upon signature of the Governor, or upon becoming law without his signature.
