1313 WHEREAS, MaryAnne Tebedo, the former Senator, departed this1
1414 life on February 13, 2023, at the age of 86; and2
1515 WHEREAS, MaryAnne Geivett Tebedo was born on October 30,3
1616 1936, in Denver, Colorado, to Harvey and Alma Geivett; and4
1717 WHEREAS, She married the love of her life, Donald E. Tebedo,5
1818 in 1954, and together they had six children; and6
1919 WHEREAS, MaryAnne and her husband moved to Pueblo,7
2020 Colorado, in 1958 where she became active in politics as a founding8
2121 member of the Belnor Republican Women's Club; and9
2222 WHEREAS, She was then recruited by the Republican Party to10

3131 WHEREAS, MaryAnne and her husband later moved to Colorado3
3232 Springs, and while raising their children, she was deeply involved in the4
3333 community's political arena, serving on staffing campaigns to elect local5
3434 people to public office, including county commissioners, legislators,6
3535 congressmen, and governors; and7
3636 WHEREAS, Her commitment and dedication to Ronald Reagan8
3737 led her to accept the Co-chairmanship of his El Paso County Presidential9
3838 Election Committee and took her to two national conventions as a10
3939 member of his presidential election staff and Coordinator for Colorado's11
4040 Youth for Reagan; and12
4141 WHEREAS, The very same people whom Senator Tebedo helped13
4242 elect to public office asked her to consider public office herself, which14
4343 she did in 1982, after her youngest child graduated from high school; and15
4444 WHEREAS, She was appointed to represent El Paso county as a16
4545 Republican in the Colorado House of Representatives in 1982 and was17
4646 reelected for three more terms through 1988; and18
4747 WHEREAS, In 1988, Senator Tebedo was elected to serve in the19
4848 Colorado Senate and served until the completion of her career on20
4949 December 31, 2001; and21
5050 WHEREAS, As a member of the Colorado House of22
5151 Representatives, Senator Tebedo served as vice-chair of the Business23
5252 Affairs and Labor committee and served on the Health, Environment,24
5353 Welfare, and Institutions; Appropriations; and Finance committees; and25
5454 WHEREAS, As a senator, Senator Tebedo served as chair of the26
5555 Local Government and State, Veterans, and Military Affairs committees27
5656 and vice-chair of the Transportation; Local Government; and State,28
5757 Veterans, and Military Affairs committees, and she also served on the29
5858 Business Affairs and Labor, Appropriations, and Education committees;30

6060 WHEREAS, Over 30 years ago, Senator Tebedo worked tirelessly,32
6161 along with Costas Rombocos, the CEO of the Shrine of Remembrance33
6262 Funeral Home, and a task force of industry leaders to rewrite and clarify34

6464 -2- the Colorado preneed funeral contracts law to optimally protect the state's1
6565 residents and to provide a clear and concise law that could be uniformly2
6666 observed by the state's death care providers; and3
6767 WHEREAS, In addition to her tenure in the Colorado General4
6868 Assembly, Senator Tebedo was a professional registered parliamentarian,5
6969 beginning in 1979; and6
7070 WHEREAS, Senator Tebedo was a member of the National7
7171 Association of Parliamentarians, served as president of the Colorado8
7272 Springs unit of the national association, and was a member of the board9
7373 of directors of the Colorado Association of Parliamentarians; and10
7474 WHEREAS, In 2000, Senator Tebedo completed studies at the11
7575 University of Denver, University College, as a trained mediator and12
7676 served as a guidelines member of the Colorado Council of Mediator13
7777 Organizations, specializing in civic disputes; and14
7878 WHEREAS, Senator Tebedo was the sole proprietor of Colorado15
7979 Mediation, LLC, practicing mediation, facilitation, negotiation, and16
8080 arbitration; now, therefore,17
8181 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventy-fourth General18
8282 Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives19
8383 concurring herein:20
8484 That, in the death of MaryAnne Tebedo, the people of the State of21
8585 Colorado have lost a devoted public servant and an outstanding citizen,22
8686 and that we, the members of the Seventy-fourth General Assembly, pay23
8787 tribute to MaryAnne Tebedo for years of dedicated public service and do24
8888 hereby extend our deep and heartfelt sympathy to the members of the25
8989 family.26
9090 Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Joint Memorial be sent27
9191 to Senator Tebedo's surviving children: Kevin, Ronald, and Thomas28
9292 Tebedo and Christine Tebedo Ramirez.29
