WHEREAS, Colorado benefits greatly from the presence and1 military service of the more than 47,000 men and women in our state who2 serve in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Marine3 Corps, and Coast Guard; the branch Reserves; the Colorado National4 Guard; and the Civil Air Patrol; and5 WHEREAS, The service members of the Colorado National Guard6 have served in defense of our nation and as the first military responders7 in support of civil authorities during domestic emergencies and are8 celebrating their 165th anniversary this year; and9 WHEREAS, In addition to active members of the United States10 Armed Services, Colorado is the proud home of more than 340,00011 military veterans who have served their country long and well and who12 bring great honor and distinction to the state. Colorado is home not only13 to active duty service personnel and veterans but also to the countless14 family members of these service members who display the same15 dedication, courage, and sacrifice; and16 WHEREAS, We should never forget the uncommon sacrifices17 made for us by the service members from Colorado declared missing in18 action or prisoners of war while defending the principles of liberty and19 justice in conflicts around the world; and20 WHEREAS, Disparate and diverse groups of Coloradans, such as21 persons who are African American, Native American, Latino or Latina,22 or Hispanic, in addition to men and women of all backgrounds, are bound23 together in the Armed Services by their selfless dedication to the spirit of24 our nation, the ideals of freedom and democracy, and the cause of25 democracy and stability around the globe; and26 WHEREAS, In this time of conflict, it is particularly appropriate27 to recognize the Coloradans in all branches and components of the Armed28 Services who serve to protect the security and peace of our nation and29 other nations; now, therefore,30 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventy-fifth31 General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:32 (1) That we, the members of the Seventy-fifth General Assembly,33 hereby extend our heartfelt gratitude to our state's veterans, past and34 present, to all members of the military currently serving in the Armed35 1010 -2- Services, and to the family members of active duty personnel and1 veterans, and that we remember and honor prisoners of war and those2 missing in action from previous conflicts;3 (2) That we express our continued partnership with and support4 of Fort Carson and maintain our strong commitment to supporting5 ongoing military training at the Mountain Post; and6 (3) That we encourage the citizens of Colorado to join in the7 celebration of Colorado's Military, Veterans, and POW/MIA8 Appreciation Day, in recognition and honor of the thousands of fellow9 citizens in the military who protect and serve their communities, state,10 and country.11 Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Resolution be sent12 to President Donald J. Trump; Governor Jared Polis; Maj. Gen. Laura13 Clellan, Adjutant General of Colorado, Executive Director of the14 Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; Carol Thomas, Commander15 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Colorado; the American16 Legion of Colorado; the Colorado Board of Veterans Affairs; the United17 Veterans Coalition of Colorado; the Paralyzed Veterans of America18 Mountain States Chapter; the Broomfield Veterans Museum; the Wings19 Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum; and each member of20 Colorado's Congressional delegation.21 1010 -3-
