AN ACT CONCERNING NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE WITH A MOTOR VEHICLE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. Section 14-222a of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2010):

(a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, any person who, in consequence of the negligent operation of a motor vehicle, causes the death of another person shall be fined not more than one thousand dollars or imprisoned not more than [six months] two years, or both. 

(b) Any person who, in consequence of the negligent operation of a commercial motor vehicle, causes the death of another person shall be fined not more than two thousand five hundred dollars or imprisoned not more than [six months] two years, or both. 

 


This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:

Statement of Purpose: 

To increase the penalty for negligent homicide with a motor vehicle from an unclassified misdemeanor to an unclassified felony.
