LCO No. 682

Referred to Committee on Judiciary

Introduced by:

REP. CANDELORA, 86th Dist.

REP. ADINOLFI, 103rd Dist.

AN ACT CONCERNING THE RETURN OF STOLEN PROPERTY.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subdivision (1) of subsection (b) of section 54-36a of the general statutes be amended to provide that when a law enforcement agency seizes stolen property in connection with a criminal arrest or pursuant to a search warrant, the filing of an inventory is not required and the property may be returned to the owner if the value of the property does not exceed five hundred dollars, rather than two hundred fifty dollars.

Statement of Purpose:

To permit more stolen property that is recovered by police to be returned to the rightful owner by raising the property value threshold that determines whether the police must file an inventory and retain the property.
