AN ACT INCREASING THE SANCTION FOR THE SECOND OFFENSE OF ILLEGAL USE OF A HAND-HELD MOBILE ELECTRONIC DEVICE WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That section 14-296aa of the general statutes be amended to provide that the second offense of illegal use of a hand-held mobile electronic device by a person who is operating a motor vehicle shall be a misdemeanor and the police shall be authorized to take possession of such person's operator's license for a period of twenty-four hours.
Statement of Purpose:
To strengthen the law against the illegal use of a hand-held mobile electronic device while driving.
