AN ACT REQUIRING SMOKE AND CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTION AND WARNING EQUIPMENT IN ALL RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 29-292 of the general statutes be amended to require that all residential buildings be equipped with carbon monoxide detection and warning equipment, unless such building does not contain a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage, and smoke detection and warning equipment, regardless of the building's occupancy design or the date on which a building permit for new occupancy was issued. 

Statement of Purpose: 

To promote public safety by requiring carbon monoxide detection and warning equipment and smoke detection and warning equipment in all residential buildings.
