AN ACT CONCERNING THE PROVISION OF SPECIAL NEEDS SERVICES AND MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT SERVICES TO PARENTS OR GUARDIANS IN A LEGAL DISPUTE INVOLVING THE CARE AND CUSTODY OF A CHILD. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That chapter 815j of the general statutes be amended to provide that the court, upon the filing of an action involving the care and custody of a child, shall inquire of the parents or guardians of such child as to whether the child is receiving special needs services or mental health support services and, if so, the court shall (1) report this information to the Departments of Mental Health and Addiction Services and Children and Families, and (2) coordinate with said departments to ensure that the parents, guardians and child receive all needed services for not less than three years from the date of filing the action. Statement of Purpose: To ensure that parents or guardians involved in a legal dispute concerning the care and custody of a child receive special needs services and mental health support services.
