1224 AN ACT CONCERNING LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR MILITARY FAMILIES.

1426 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

16-Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2018) The Military Department shall, through its family program, compile and maintain a list of attorneys who have offered and are able, as available, to provide legal services, including, but not limited to, representation at judicial or administrative appearances, at no cost or minimal cost to members of the armed forces, as defined in section 27-103 of the general statutes, veterans, as defined in subsection (a) of said section, and such members' or veterans' families. The Military Department shall, in consultation with the Department of Veterans Affairs, distribute such list to members of the armed forces, veterans and such members' or veterans' families through the Office of Advocacy and Assistance, as described in section 27-102l of the general statutes, local veterans' advisory committees or veterans' service contact persons, as applicable, as described in section 27-135 of the general statutes, the contact list described in section 27-100c of the general statutes and any other means the Adjutant General or Commissioner of Veterans Affairs may deem appropriate.

(NEW) (Effective October 1, 2018) The Military Department shall establish, within its family program, a legal representation program through which the department identifies and coordinates with qualified attorneys-at-law to provide legal services, including representation at judicial or administrative appearances, at no cost to members of the armed forces, as defined in section 27-103 of the general statutes, and members' families.
