LCO No. 5847 1 of 2 General Assembly Committee Bill No. 5156 January Session, 2019 LCO No. 5847 Referred to Committee on PUBLIC SAFETY AND SECURITY Introduced by: (PS) AN ACT CONCERNING TR AINING FOR FIREFIGHTERS AND EMERGENCY SERVICES M EDICAL PERSONNEL REG ARDING JUVENILES WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER OR NONVERBAL LEARNING DISORDER. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (NEW) (Effective January 1, 2020) On and after January 1, 1 2020, each initial, review or refresher training program for firefighters 2 of a municipal, state or volunteer fire department or emergency 3 medical services personnel, as defined in section 20-206jj of the general 4 statutes, shall include a course on techniques for handling incidents, 5 such as wandering, that involve juveniles with autism spectrum 6 disorder or nonverbal learning disorder if the curriculum for such 7 techniques is made available at no cost to the training provider from 8 (1) institutions of higher education, health care professionals or 9 advocacy organizations that are concerned with juveniles with autism 10 spectrum disorder or nonverbal learning disorder, or (2) a 11 collaboration of such institutions, professionals or organizations. 12 Committee Bill No. 5156 LCO No. 5847 2 of 2 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 January 1, 2020 New section Statement of Purpose: To require training for firefighters and emergency services medical personnel on techniques for handling incidents involving juveniles with autism spectrum disorder or nonverbal learning disorder, if the curriculum is available at no cost.
