2020 AN ACT REQUIRING BAC KGROUND CHECKS FOR P ROSPECTIVE

2222 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2323 Assembly convened:

2525 Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2019) (a) As used in this section, 1
2626 "background check" means an investigation of a prospective employee 2
2727 that includes, but is not limited to, (1) verification of such prospective 3
2828 employee's Social Security number, and (2) a review of (A) the abuse 4
2929 and neglect registry maintained by the Commissioner of Children and 5
3030 Families pursuant to section 17a-101k of the general statutes, (B) state 6
3131 and national sexual offender registry databases, (C) criminal 7
3232 conviction information obtained through a search of current criminal 8
3333 matters of public record in this state based on the prospective 9
3434 employee's name and date of birth, and (D) any other information that 10
3535 is necessary in order to evaluate the suitability of the prospective 11
3636 employee. 12
3737 (b) Each person who conducts or maintains a youth camp, as 13
3838 defined in section 19a-420 of the general statutes, or such person's 14
3939 designee, shall require a prospective employee to submit to a 15

4848 (c) Each person who conducts or maintains a youth camp, as 18
4949 defined in section 19a-420 of the general statutes, or such person's 19
5050 designee, shall maintain a paper or electronic copy of any materials 20
5151 obtained during a background check and shall make such records 21
5252 available for inspection upon request of the Office of Early Childhood. 22
5353 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following
