AN ACT CONCERNING SAFE FIREARM STORAGE. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That sections 29-37i, 52-571g, 53a-217a and 10-18b of the general 1 statutes be amended to provide that any firearm, whether loaded or 2 unloaded, needs to be safely stored when a minor up to eighteen years 3 of age, rather than sixteen years of age, may gain access to such 4 firearm, that if a person fails to safely store a firearm, such person shall 5 be strictly liable and criminally negligent in the case of an injury or 6 death caused by a minor up to eighteen years of age, rather than 7 sixteen years of age, and that the State Board of Education shall, rather 8 than may, develop a firearm safety curriculum guide for students. 9 Statement of Purpose: To keep children safe from gun violence, ensure greater responsibility by persons storing firearms and increase the opportunity for firearm safety education in public schools.
