AN ACT PROHIBITING THE PAYMENT OF SALARIES TO
LEGISLATORS IN THE ABSENCE OF A BUDGET.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
That section 2-8 of the general statutes be amended to provide that 1
(1) no legislator shall be paid a salary in any fiscal year unless a budget 2
for such fiscal year is enacted; and (2) if the budget for a fiscal year is 3
enacted on or after the first day of such fiscal year, each legislator's 4
salary during such fiscal year shall be reduced in proportion to the 5
number of days that elapse before such budget is enacted. 6
Statement of Purpose:
To encourage the debate and passage of the state budget in a timely
manner.
