AN ACT REQUIRING THE PAYMENT OF DISPUTED RENT PAYMENTS TO A COURT REGISTRY. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That section 47a-26b of the general statutes be amended to: (1) 1 Allow a court to make an initial determination as to the amount of 2 disputed rent payments that a tenant is required to make to a court 3 registry, and (2) permit a landlord, upon demonstrating to the court 4 that he or she is in actual danger of loss of the rental premises or 5 suffering other hardship resulting from the loss of rental income, to 6 seek full or partial disbursement of the disputed rent payments paid to 7 the court registry. 8 Statement of Purpose: To require that disputed rent payments in a landlord-tenant action be deposited with a court registry and to permit the court to disburse such payments, in whole or in part, to the landlord when the landlord demonstrates to the court that a hardship has been created as a result of the loss of rental income.
