ORANGE, 48th Dist. AN ACT PROHIBITING CERTAIN HEALTH CARRIERS FROM REQUIRING THE USE OF STEP THERAPY FOR COVERED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS THAT ARE PRESCRIBED TO TREAT CANCER. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That sections 38a-510 and 38a-544 of the general statutes be 1 amended to provide that no insurance company, hospital service 2 corporation, medical service corporation, health care center or other 3 entity that delivers, issues for delivery, renews, amends or continues a 4 health insurance policy or contract in this state that includes 5 prescription drug coverage may require, if such company, corporation, 6 center or entity uses step therapy for covered prescription drugs, the 7 use of step therapy for a covered prescription drug that is (1) 8 prescribed to an insured for cancer treatment, and (2) in compliance 9 with approved federal Food and Drug Administration indications. 10 Statement of Purpose: To prohibit certain health carriers from requiring the use of step therapy for certain covered prescription drugs that are prescribed to treat cancer.
