2525 AN ACT REGULATING THE TRANSITION FROM PLASTIC, SINGLE -
2626 USE CARRYOUT BAGS TO REUSABLE BAGS.
2727 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2828 Assembly convened:

3030 That the general statutes be amended to establish a three-year 1
3131 period during which the distribution of single-use plastic carryout 2
3232 bags is reduced by eighty per cent and retail establishments offer 3
3333 reusable bags to consumers for a fee of not less than fifteen cents, the 4
3434 proceeds of which are retained by the retailer. Additionally, after such 5
3535 three-year period, no retailer may provide a customer with a plastic, 6
3636 single-use carryout bag and any reusable bag offered by such retailer 7
3737 to such customer shall be for a fee of not less than twenty-five cents. 8

3939 To keep plastic bags from polluting the state's environment.
