920 AN ACT CONCERNING BO ARDS OF POLICE COMMI SSIONERS
1021 ESTABLISHED BY SPECI AL ACT.
1122 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General

14-Section 1. Section 7-274 of the general statutes is repealed and the
15-following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective October 1, 2019):
16-(a) Any town may, by ordinance, establish a board of police
17-commissioners to be elected, in accordance with the provisions of
18-section 9-201 or to be appointed by the council or board of directors of
19-a town, the common council or other body empowered to make
20-ordinances of a city, the board of burgesses of a borough or the board
21-of selectmen of a town not having a council or board of directors,
22-provided in a town having both a board of selectmen and a
23-representative town meeting such ordinance may designate the
24-representative town meeting as the appointing authority, for the
25-purpose of organizing and maintaining a police department in such
26-town. Such board shall consist of three, five or seven electors, all of
27-whom shall be resident taxpayers of such town. Such commissioners
28-shall be sworn to the faithful performance of their duties and shall
29-serve without compensation, but their actual expenses and
30-disbursements incurred in the performance of their duties shall be paid
31-from the town treasury. House Bill No. 6122
