AN ACT CONCERNING THE TREATMENT OF CHRONIC PAIN WITHOUT OPIOID DRUGS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That section 20-14o of the general statutes be amended to (1) allow a 1 prescribing practitioner to refer a patient to a chiropractor or a physical 2 therapist in addition to or in place of issuing a prescription for an 3 opioid drug, and (2) require the Department of Public Health to (A) 4 establish guidelines for the use of evidence-based, nonpharmaceutical 5 therapies to treat chronic pain that include, but are not limited to, 6 chiropractic treatment and physical therapy, and (B) conduct 7 educational and outreach activities to raise awareness of such 8 guidelines. 9 Statement of Purpose: To establish guidelines and recommend the treatment of chronic paid without the use of opioid drugs.
