LCO No. 3095 1 of 2 General Assembly Proposed Bill No. 6529 January Session, 2019 LCO No. 3095 Referred to Committee on PUBLIC HEALTH Introduced by: REP. COMEY, 102nd Dist. AN ACT REQUIRING FOOD ALLERGY AWARENESS TRAINING IN RESTAURANTS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended to require (1) food protection 1 managers to (A) complete allergen awareness training, (B) include 2 allergen awareness as part of their staff training, (C) establish 3 guidelines for staff interaction with customers who have food allergies, 4 and (D) incorporate the guidelines into the food establishment's 5 standard operating procedures, (2) food inspectors at local health 6 departments to complete allergen awareness training, and (3) class 2, 3 7 and 4 food establishments to (A) retain records documenting certified 8 food protection managers' completion of the required training and 9 make the records available for inspection by the Department of Public 10 Health or local health departments, (B) develop procedures for 11 informing customers, upon request, of the all ingredients of standard 12 menu items and the presence of major food allergens in its menu items, 13 and (C) post in a clear and conspicuous manner on its menus and 14 menu boards, a request that customers notify their server of any food 15 allergies they have before placing an order. 16 Proposed Bill No. 6529 LCO No. 3095 2 of 2 Statement of Purpose: To require food allergy training in restaurants.
