LCO No. 3835 1 of 2 General Assembly Raised Bill No. 7137 January Session, 2019 LCO No. 3835 Referred to Committee on VETERANS' AFFAIRS Introduced by: (VA) AN ACT CONCERNING DE SIGNATED DRIVERS IN THE OFFICE OF ADVOCACY AND ASSISTA NCE DISTRICT OFFICES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Subdivision (1) of subsection (b) of section 27-102l of the 1 general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu 2 thereof (Effective October 1, 2019): 3 (b) (1) (A) The commissioner may appoint a manager to administer 4 an Office of Advocacy and Assistance for the aid and benefit of 5 veterans and their spouses, eligible dependents and family members. 6 The office shall have a staff of not less than eight men and women, 7 including six veterans' service officers, and clerical personnel. The 8 manager and veterans' service officers shall be veterans, as defined in 9 subsection (a) of section 27-103, or veterans who were awarded the 10 armed forces expeditionary medal for service by the armed forces. 11 (B) The manager shall designate five members of the office staff to 12 drive veterans to medical appointments and employment interviews. 13 Each such member of the office staff shall be assigned to one of the five 14 Raised Bill No. 7137 LCO No. 3835 2 of 2 congressional districts of the state. 15 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 October 1, 2019 27-102l(b)(1) Statement of Purpose: To require each district office of the Office of Advocacy and Assistance to have a designated driver for certain veterans' appointments and interviews.
