Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (Effective from passage) (a) The Department of Housing 1 shall, within available appropriations, conduct a study of methods to 2 assist senior citizens who wish to continue independently living in 3 their homes as long as possible. Specifically, the study shall include, 4 but need not be limited to, a consideration of: 5 (1) Application of the federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit 6 program, 26 USC 42, to further encourage the development of housing 7 near public transit and livable community settings; 8 (2) Whether the Housing Trust Fund program, established under 9 section 8-336p of the general statutes, has specific regulations that give 10 extra consideration to projects that serve senior citizens; 11 (3) Increasing current building standards beyond those required by 12 the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, 42 USC 12101, to 13 require building standards that consider people with limited physical 14 capabilities and apply those standards to private housing and single 15 family units built with public funds; and 16 (4) Integration of local efficiency principles into decision making as 17 it relates to housing for senior citizens. 18 Substitute Bill No. 7227 LCO {\\PRDFS1\HCOUSERS\BARRYJN\WS\2019HB-07227- R01-HB.docx } 2 of 2 (b) Not later than January 1, 2020, the Commissioner of Housing 19 shall submit a report on the results of such study, in accordance with 20 the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes, to the joint 21 standing committee of the General Assembly having cognizance of 22 matters relating to housing. 23 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 from passage New section HSG Joint Favorable Subst.
