1219 AN ACT ESTABLISHING A TASK FORCE TO STUDY ISSUES
1320 RELATING TO PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT WITH STU DENTS.
1421 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
1522 Assembly convened:

1724 Section 1. (Effective from passage) (a) There is established a task force 1
1825 to study issues relating to parental involvement with students. The 2
1926 task force shall study and make recommendations concerning (1) 3
2027 methods for improving parental involvement with students, including 4
2128 best practices being utilized in other states, (2) the feasibility of 5
22-establishing parent academies throughout the state to assist parents 6
23-and students in middle school and high school with college planning 7
24-and career training, and (3) methods for fostering communication and 8
25-interaction among parents, school personnel and the surrounding 9

4854 (6) One appointed by the minority leader of the Senate, who is a 26

5056 (7) The Commissioner of Education, or the commissioner's designee. 28
5157 (c) Any member of the task force appointed under subdivision (1), 29
5258 (2), (3), (4), (5) or (6) of subsection (b) of this section may be a member 30
5359 of the General Assembly. 31
5460 (d) All appointments to the task force shall be made not later than 32
5561 thirty days after the effective date of this section. Any vacancy shall be 33
5662 filled by the appointing authority. 34
5763 (e) The speaker of the House of Representatives and the president 35
5864 pro tempore of the Senate shall select the chairpersons of the task force 36
5965 from among the members of the task force. Such chairpersons shall 37
6066 schedule the first meeting of the task force, which shall be held not 38
6167 later than sixty days after the effective date of this section. 39
6268 (f) The administrative staff of the joint standing committee of the 40
6369 General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to education 41
