25 | 24 | | Section 1. Section 7-16a of the general statutes is repealed and the 1 |

26 | 25 | | following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective from passage): 2 |

27 | 26 | | If a town clerk is appointed under a special law or a town charter, 3 |

28 | 27 | | the appointing authority or, if none, the chief executive official of the 4 |
---|
29 | 28 | | town, shall, [within] not later than ten days after such an appointment 5 |
---|
30 | 29 | | is made, file a notice of such appointment with the Secretary of the 6 |
---|
31 | 30 | | State, indicating the name and address of the person appointed, the 7 |
---|
32 | 31 | | date and method of such appointment and the law under which the 8 |
---|
33 | 32 | | appointment was made. [Within] Not later than ten days after a 9 |

34 | 33 | | vacancy occurs in the appointed office of town clerk, the first 10 |

35 | 34 | | selectman or chief executive official of the town shall notify the 11 |

63 | 61 | | subsection (n) of section 9-1, and, upon request of a municipal official, 33 |

64 | 62 | | matters arising under chapter 99; (2) prepare regulations and 34 |

65 | 63 | | instructions for the conduct of elections, as designated by law; (3) 35 |

66 | 64 | | provide local election officials with a sufficient number of copies of 36 |
---|
67 | 65 | | election laws pamphlets and materials necessary to the conduct of 37 |
---|
68 | 66 | | elections; (4) distribute all materials concerning proposed laws or 38 |
---|
69 | 67 | | amendments required by law to be submitted to the electors; (5) 39 |

70 | 68 | | recommend to local election officials the form of registration cards and 40 |
---|
71 | 69 | | blanks; (6) determine, in the manner provided by law, the forms for the 41 |
---|
72 | 70 | | preparation of voting tabulators, for the recording of the vote and the 42 |
---|
73 | 71 | | conduct of the election and certification of election returns; (7) prepare 43 |

74 | 72 | | the ballot title or statement to be placed on the ballot for any proposed 44 |

75 | 73 | | law or amendment to the Constitution to be submitted to the electors 45 |
