1818 AN ACT CONCERNING COMMITMENT OF INDIVIDUALS FOUND NOT
1919 GUILTY BY REASON OF MENTAL DEFECT OR DISEASE.
2020 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2121 Assembly convened:

2323 That the general statutes be amended to limit the commitment of 1
2424 individuals found not guilty by reason of mental defect or disease to 2
2525 the maximum amount of time the person could have served if he or 3
2626 she was found guilty of the crimes charged and to provide that such 4
2727 commitment may be extended beyond such time, provided the state 5
2828 bears the burden of proof that such a commitment is necessary. 6
2929 Statement of Purpose:
3030 To provide that the time of commitment be more closely tied to the
3131 time of incarceration associated with the crime.
