	20	+	AN ACT CONCERNING AD DITIONAL COMPENSATIO N FOR CERTAIN
	21	+	RETIRED PUBLIC SAFETY EMPLOYEES.
11	22		Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
12	23		Assembly convened:

14		-	Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2019) (a) Notwithstanding any
15		-	provision of the general statutes or of any charter or special act, a
16		-	municipality may, by two-thirds vote of its legislative body or, in a
17		-	municipality where the legislative body is a town meeting, by two-
18		-	thirds vote of the board of selectmen, provide for compensation, in
19		-	accordance with subsection (b) of this section, by such municipality of
20		-	a retired public safety employee (1) with a permanent and severe
21		-	disability caused by a serious bodily injury which (A) arose out of and
22		-	in the course of his or her employment as a public safety employee,
23		-	and (B) was suffered in the line of duty and within the scope of his or
24		-	her employment as a public safety employee, (2) who retired from
25		-	service as a public safety employee as a result of such disability, and
26		-	(3) who is under the age of sixty-five. As used in this section, "public
27		-	safety employee" means a retired uniformed member of such
28		-	municipality's paid fire department or a retired regular member of
29		-	such municipality's paid police department.
30		-	(b) The compensation paid to any public safety employee described
31		-	in subsection (a) of this section shall be in an amount equal to the Senate Bill No. 556

	39	+	(b) The compensation paid to any public safety employee described 15

36		-	employee under the provisions of chapter 568 of the general statutes
37		-	and any other benefits, and (2) the regular rate of pay of such
38		-	employee at the time of his or her retirement. Upon approval by the
39		-	legislative body or board of selectmen, as applicable, in accordance
40		-	with subsection (a) of this section, such compensation shall be paid
41		-	annually to such employee and shall continue until such employee
42		-	attains the age of sixty-five.
43		-	(c) A municipality providing for compensation in accordance with
44		-	this section shall establish procedures for the evaluation of any retired
45		-	public safety employee considered for such compensation to
46		-	determine such person's eligibility.
