AN ACT ADDING REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING PARKING SPACES TO THE STATE BUILDING CODE. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That subsection (a) of section 29-252 of the general statutes be 1 amended to require that the State Building Inspector and the Codes 2 and Standards Committee revise the State Building Code to require 3 new construction and buildings undergoing substantial rehabilitation 4 of parking areas or electrical systems to have electric vehicle ready 5 parking spaces, which have the appropriate electric wiring for future 6 installation of an electric charging station, and electric vehicle capable 7 parking spaces, which have an electric panel with space to install 8 appropriate electric service, as follows: (1) A one-to-three family home 9 must have at least one electric vehicle ready parking space; (2) a home 10 for more than three families or a commercial building with between 11 two and ten parking spaces must have at least fifty per cent of their 12 spaces electric vehicle capable and at least twenty per cent electric 13 vehicle ready, rounded to the nearest larger number; and (3) a multi-14 unit residential or commercial building with at least eleven parking 15 spaces must have at least forty per cent of their spaces electric vehicle 16 capable, including twenty per cent electric vehicle ready, rounded to 17 Proposed Bill No. 771 LCO No. 3160 2 of 2 the nearest larger number. 18 Statement of Purpose: To update the State Building Code to require new construction and buildings undergoing substantial rehabilitation of parking areas or electrical systems to have electric vehicle ready parking spaces and electric vehicle capable parking spaces.
