AN ACT REQUIRING BOARDS OF EDUCATION TO CONDUCT
TESTING OF WATER SUP PLIES IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR THE
PRESENCE OF LEAD.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
Section 1. (Effective July 1, 2019) Not later than July 1, 2020, each local 1
and regional board of education shall conduct a test of the water 2
supply in any school building or school facility that was constructed 3
before July 1, 1986, for the presence of lead, and shall provide the 4
results of such test to the Department of Education and the 5
Department of Public Health. Nothing in this section shall be 6
construed to prevent a local director of public health from conducting 7
the test of the water supply in such school buildings or school facilities 8
for a local or regional board of education. A local and regional board of 9
education may submit an application to the Department of Public 10
Health for reimbursement of any costs associated with such test. If 11
such test reveals that the water supply of such school building or 12
school facility fails to meet water quality standards established by the 13
Department of Public Health then a local or regional board of 14
education shall be eligible to apply for a school building project grant 15
under chapter 173 of the general statutes to remediate any problems 16 Raised Bill No. 814

revealed by such test. 17
This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following
sections:
