| 27 | 27 | | Section 1. (NEW) (Effective January 1, 2021) (a) The Commissioner of 1 |

| 28 | 28 | | Motor Vehicles, at the request of any veteran, as defined in section 27-2 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 103 of the general statutes, shall issue, without charge, special 3 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | registration marker plates to indicate service during a period of war, as 4 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | defined in 38 USC 101, as amended from time to time. Such plates shall 5 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | bear the words "(Name of War) Veteran" and shall bear the colors of the 6 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | flag of the country where such war was engaged at the top of the 7 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | registration marker plate. No use shall be made of such plates except as 8 |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | official registration marker plates. 9 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | (b) The request of any veteran shall be accompanied by proof from 10 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | the United States Department of Veterans Affairs that such person 11 |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | served in the armed forces during such period of war. 12 |

| 39 | 39 | | (c) The surviving spouse of a veteran issued such special registration 13 |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | marker plates may retain any such plates for his or her lifetime or until 14 |
|---|
