AN ACT CONCERNING SP ECIAL REGISTRATION MARKER PLATES 
FOR VETERANS WHO SER VED IN PERIODS OF WAR. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
Section 1. (NEW) (Effective January 1, 2021) (a) The Commissioner of 1 
Motor Vehicles, at the request of any veteran, as defined in section 27-2 
103 of the general statutes, shall issue, without charge, special 3 
registration marker plates to indicate service during a period of war, as 4 
defined in 38 USC 101, as amended from time to time. Such plates shall 5 
bear the words "(Name of War) Veteran" and shall bear the colors of the 6 
flag of the country where such war was engaged at the top of the 7 
registration marker plate. No use shall be made of such plates except as 8 
official registration marker plates. 9 
(b) The request of any veteran shall be accompanied by proof from 10 
the United States Department of Veterans Affairs that such person 11 
served in the armed forces during such period of war. 12 
(c) The surviving spouse of a veteran issued such special registration 13 
marker plates may retain any such plates for his or her lifetime or until 14 
such time as he or she remarries. 15  Raised Bill No.  5262

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following 
sections: 
 
Section 1 January 1, 2021 New section

To create special registration marker plates available to veterans who 
served during certain periods of war.
