LCO No. 2201 1 of 2 General Assembly Raised Bill No. 5398 February Session, 2020 LCO No. 2201 Referred to Committee on VETERANS' AFFAIRS Introduced by: (VA) AN ACT CONCERNING LI CENSED OCCUPATIONS O F MILITARY SPOUSES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2020) (a) Except as otherwise 1 provided in the general statutes, a military spouse who accompanies his 2 or her spouse who is a military member assigned to a base in this state 3 and who holds a current occupational license in another state may 4 engage in the occupation for which the military spouse is licensed, 5 provided such military spouse presents a copy of his or her 6 identification card and evidence satisfactory to the department having 7 jurisdiction over such license that the military spouse (1) is currently 8 licensed by another state whose standards, in the opinion of the 9 department, are substantially similar to, or higher than, those of this 10 state, (2) is in good standing, (3) is not the subject of any pending 11 professional disciplinary action, (4) is not the subject of a pending, 12 unresolved complaint, and (5) is presently residing in this state. 13 (b) The state agency having jurisdiction of such license shall verify 14 the military spouse's license in such other state and that it is in good 15 Raised Bill No. 5398 LCO No. 2201 2 of 2 standing. The military spouse's out-of-state license shall be recognized 16 for the duration of the military member's assignment in this state or for 17 three years, whichever is less. 18 (c) For the purpose of this section, "military spouse" means a person 19 married to an active duty member of the armed forces, as defined in 20 section 27-103 of the general statutes.21 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 October 1, 2020 New section Statement of Purpose: To permit the state to recognize current, out-of-state occupational licenses held by military spouses.
