AN ACT CONCERNING IN STALLERS OF RESIDENT IAL VERTICAL 
PLATFORM LIFTS.  
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
Section 1. Section 20-340f of the general statutes is repealed and the 1 
following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective from passage): 2 
(a) Not later than December 31, 2016, the Commissioner of Consumer 3 
Protection, after consultation with the Elevator Installation, Repair and 4 
Maintenance Board established pursuant to section 20-331, shall adopt 5 
regulations, in accordance with the provisions of chapter 54, to establish 6 
a residential stair lift technician's license. Not later than December 31, 7 
2021, the commissioner, after consultation with the Elevator Installation, 8 
Repair and Maintenance Board, shall amend such regulations to 9 
establish a residential vertical platform lift technician's license. Such 10 
regulations shall include, but need not be limited to, the amount and 11 
type of experience, training, continuing education and examination 12 
requirements, if any, for a person to obtain and renew [such] a 13 
residential stair lift technician's license and a residential vertical 14 
platform lift technician's license. 15 
(b) The initial fee for a residential stair lift technician's license or a 16 
residential vertical platform lift technician's license shall be one hundred 17 
fifty dollars and the renewal fee for each such license shall be seventy-18  Substitute Bill No. 5164

five dollars. Licenses shall be valid for a period of one year from the date 19 
of issuance. 20 
(c) Nothing in this section shall prohibit the holder of an occupational 21 
license issued pursuant to this chapter that allows the installation and 22 
repair of residential stair lifts or residential vertical platform lifts from 23 
performing such work. A holder of such occupational license shall not 24 
be required to obtain a residential stair lift technician's license or a 25 
residential vertical platform lift technician's license.  26 
This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following 
sections:
