CURREY, 11th Dist. AN ACT CONCERNING LIVING ORGAN DONOR INSURANCE DISCRIMINATION. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That title 38a of the general statutes be amended to provide that: (1) 1 No insurer delivering, issuing for delivery, renewing, amending or 2 continuing a life insurance policy, long-term care insurance policy or a 3 policy providing disability income protection coverage in this state on 4 or after January 1, 2022, shall make any distinction or discriminate 5 against an individual in delivering, issuing for delivery, renewing, 6 amending, continuing, offering, withholding or cancelling such policy, 7 or in the terms of such policy, solely because such individual is a living 8 organ donor; and (2) prohibited discrimination against a living organ 9 donor constitutes a violation of the Connecticut Unfair Insurance 10 Practices Act. 11 Statement of Purpose: To: (1) Prohibit certain insurers from discriminating against an individual solely because the individual is a living organ donor; and (2) Proposed Bill No. 5548 LCO No. 1409 2 of 2 provide that prohibited discrimination against a living organ donor constitutes a violation of the Connecticut Unfair Insurance Practices Act.
