AN ACT ESTABLISHING A PILOT PROGRAM FOR OUTDOOR LEARNING INITIATIVES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended to establish a pilot program to 1 provide matching funding, within available resources, to local and 2 regional boards of education for the development of functional outdoor 3 learning spaces or outdoor learning initiatives designed to (1) provide 4 appropriate social distancing or increasing social distancing to prevent 5 the spread of illness, (2) promote the social and emotional well-being of 6 students, (3) promote applied or hands-on learning, and (4) supplement 7 existing traditional indoor learning spaces, except that any such outdoor 8 learning initiative developed by the board of education for an alliance 9 district shall be entitled to a waiver of up to seventy-five per cent of any 10 fund-matching requirement under the pilot program. 11 Statement of Purpose: To encourage the development of outdoor learning initiatives to both enrich curriculum and increase safety.
