COOK, 65th Dist. AN ACT PROHIBITING CERTAIN HEALTH CARRIERS FROM REQUIRING STEP THERAPY FOR PRESCRIPTION DRUGS PRESCRIBED TO TREAT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONDITIONS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That sections 38a-510 and 38a-544 of the general statutes be amended 1 to provide that no health carrier delivering, issuing for delivery, 2 renewing, amending or continuing an individual or group health 3 insurance policy or contract in this state that provides coverage for 4 prescription drugs may require, if such health carrier uses step therapy 5 for such drugs, the use of step therapy for any prescription drug 6 prescribed to treat a behavioral health condition. 7 Statement of Purpose: To provide that health carriers delivering, issuing, renewing, amending or continuing certain individual and group health insurance policies and contracts in this state shall not require the use of step therapy for prescription drugs prescribed to treat behavioral health conditions.
