AN ACT PROHIBITING THE USE OF NATIVE AMERICAN MASCOTS 
IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
That titles 10 and 10a of the general statutes be amended to prohibit, 1 
for the school year commencing July 1, 2021, and each school year 2 
thereafter, a local or regional board of education, the Board of Regents 3 
for Higher Education and the Board of Trustees of The University of 4 
Connecticut from adopting or using any name, symbol or image that 5 
depicts or refers to a Native American tribe, individual, custom or 6 
tradition as a mascot, nickname, logo, letterhead or team name for any 7 
school under the jurisdiction of such boards. 8 
Statement of Purpose:   
To promote respect for Native American people and traditions in the 
state of Connecticut by prohibiting the use of Native American mascots 
in public schools.
