AN ACT CONCERNING JUNETEENTH EMANCIPATION DAY AND THE ISSUANCE OF JUNETEENTH COMMEMORATIVE PLATES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That section 1-4 of the general statutes be amended to establish June 1 nineteenth of each year as a state holiday, Juneteenth Emancipation 2 Day, in honor of the emancipation of slaves in Texas in 1865, and that 3 chapter 246 of the general statutes be amended to require the 4 Commissioner of Motor Vehicles to issue Juneteenth commemorative 5 number plates and the fees for such plates, excluding administrative 6 costs, to be deposited into the General Fund to make grants for the 7 purpose of promoting Juneteenth Emancipation Day. 8 Statement of Purpose: To establish Juneteenth Emancipation Day as a state holiday and to create a specialty Juneteenth license plate.
