1212 AN ACT CONCERNING BO ARD OF EDUCATION VAC ANCIES.
1313 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
1414 Assembly convened:

1616 Section 1. Section 7-107 of the general statutes is repealed and the 1
1717 following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective from passage): 2
1818 (a) Except as otherwise provided [by law] in subsection (b) of this 3
1919 section or in any special act, municipal charter or home rule ordinance, 4
2020 if any vacancy occurs on any town board or commission, and such board 5
2121 or commission has power by law to fill such vacancy but fails to do so 6
2222 within thirty days after it occurs, the board of selectmen or chief 7
2323 executive authority of such town may appoint a qualified person to fill 8
2424 such vacancy until the next municipal election. 9
2525 (b) If any vacancy occurs on a local board of education, such vacancy 10
2626 shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of section 10-219, as 11
2727 amended by this act. 12
2828 Sec. 2. Section 10-219 of the general statutes is repealed and the 13
2929 following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective from passage): 14
3030 [If] (a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section or in any 15
3131 charter or special act, if a vacancy occurs in the office of any member of 16
3232 the local board of education, [unless otherwise provided by charter or 17

4040 said board until the next regular town election, at which election a 19
4141 successor shall be elected for the unexpired portion of the term of such 20
4242 office, the official ballot specifying the vacancy to be filled. In the event 21
4343 that an individual (1) elected to be a member of said board fails, within 22
4444 sixty days after the date on which the term of such office begins, to take 23
4545 the oath of office required under section 10-218a, or (2) chosen to fill a 24
4646 vacancy on said board pursuant to this subsection fails, within sixty 25
4747 days after having been so chosen, to take such oath, such office shall be 26
4848 deemed vacant. 27
4949 (b) If a vacancy occurs in the office of any member of the local board 28
5050 of education less than sixty days before the next regular town election, 29
5151 (1) such vacancy shall not be filled by the remaining members of said 30
5252 board, and (2) at such election a successor shall be elected for the 31
5353 unexpired portion of the term of such office, the official ballot specifying 32
5454 the vacancy to be filled. 33
