1423 AN ACT CONCERNING SP ECIAL REGISTRATION MARKER PLATES
1524 FOR VETERANS AND MEM BERS OF THE ARMED FORCES WHO
1625 SERVED IN PERIODS OF WAR.
1726 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
1827 Assembly convened:

2029 Section 1. (NEW) (Effective January 1, 2022) (a) The Commissioner of 1
2130 Motor Vehicles shall, at the request of any veteran or member of the 2
2231 armed forces who received a combat service ribbon and medal, issue 3
2332 special registration marker plates to indicate service during a period of 4
24-war, as defined in section 27-103 of the general statutes. Such plates shall 5
25-bear the words "(Name of War) Veteran" and shall bear the image of the 6
26-combat service ribbon and medal received by such veteran or member 7
27-of the armed forces to the left of the numbers on such registration 8
28-marker plates. The plates shall expire and be renewed as provided in 9
29-section 14-22 of the general statutes. The commissioner shall charge a 10
30-fee for such plates, which fee shall cover the entire cost of making such 11
31-plates and shall be in addition to the fee for registration of such motor 12
32-vehicle. No use shall be made of such plates except as official 13
33+war, as defined in 38 USC 101, as amended from time to time. Such 5
34+plates shall bear the words "(Name of War) Veteran" and shall bear the 6
35+image of the combat service ribbon and medal received by such veteran 7
36+or member of the armed forces to the left of the numbers on such 8
37+registration marker plates. The plates shall expire and be renewed as 9
38+provided in section 14-22 of the general statutes. The commissioner shall 10

51+forces, or (2) with a qualifying condition, as defined in section 27-103 of 18
4452 the general statutes, who has received a discharge other than bad 19
4553 conduct or dishonorable from active service in the armed forces. 20
4654 (b) A request made under subsection (a) of this section shall be 21
4755 accompanied by proof from the Department of Veterans Affairs that the 22
48-person making a specific request served in the armed forces during such 23

5058 (c) The surviving spouse of a veteran or member of the armed forces 25

5462 (d) Any such member of the armed forces who is dishonorably 29
5563 discharged shall return such plates to the commissioner not later than 30
5664 thirty days after such discharge. The commissioner shall not renew such 31
5765 plates for any motor vehicle owned or leased by any such member of 32
