AN ACT CONCERNING THE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF 
CERTAIN DEPICTIONS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLE AND HISTORICAL 
STATUTES WITHIN LEGISLATIVE BUILDINGS. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
That the Joint Committee on Legislative Management be required to 1 
(1) remove the statue of John Mason from the exterior of the State 2 
Capitol building and place it in the Museum of Connecticut History 3 
with recognition of his role in the Pequot massacre, (2) conduct a review 4 
of all of the statues located within, or on the exterior of, the State Capitol 5 
building, and (3) remove the picture of the indigenous people of 6 
Virginia from the underground walkway between the Legislative Office 7 
Building and State Capitol building and replace it with a more accurate 8 
picture of the state's eastern woodlands tribes, obtained in consultation 9 
with the five recognized tribes in the state. 10  Proposed Bill No.  224

Statement of Purpose:   
To remove certain statues and pictures in the Capitol to provide an 
accurate portrayal of Quinnehtukqut history.
